    Miles Vitaliano dominates Manila leg to close out 18th year of Head junior netfest

    More than 500 players gathered to compete in the final leg of the 18th Head junior netfest.

    MILES Vitaliano reigned supreme in two age groups during the last leg of the 18th HEAD Graphene XT Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit held recently at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Malate, Manila.

    Vitaliano handily defeated No. 2 seed Macie Carlos, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the girls’ 14-and-under singles crown, and then went on to claim the 16-under singles plum after her opponent Melanie Faye Dizon retired in the first set, 1-0, due to injury.

    Meanwhile, Jade Charito Capadocia showed why she's also one of Philippine tennis' rising stars as she rallied past No. 1 Melanie Faye Dizon, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, to take home the crown in the girls’ 18-and-under division of the grassroots competition organized by Dynamic Sports.

    On the other hand, Adeline Abadia took the girls' 12-under plum as she swept Khryshana Brazal, 6-4, 6-3.

    In the boys’ side, Eduardo Bagaforo pulled an upset over top seed Jeremiah Macias, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, to pocket the 18-and-under singles title, while no. 1 ranked Jed Justin Labasano cruised against Al Francis Andrade, 6-4, 6-0, to rule the 16-under division.

    Third seed Jan Harold Trillanes edged Matthew Garcia, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5, in a thrilling match to claim the 14-under crown, while Jude Miguel Hidalgo defeated Juan Rafael Mendoza, 6-2, 7-5, for the 12-under title.

    In the 10-under unisex group, Sherwin Rey Nuguit came out on top with an easy win over Mica Ella Emana, 4-1, 4-1.

    More than 500 players around Metro Manila participated in the final leg of the tournament supported by HEAD, Chris Sports, Toalson, 92.5 FM Aksyon Sports, Reach Magazine, Philippine Tennis Association (Philta), Pilipino Mirror, ANC, Impact Magazine and Podcast.ph.

    “We are very thankful and proud for those players who competed in the 18th HEAD junior tennis satellite circuit competition,” said HEAD Philippines Managing Director Liza Tang-Yuquico. “We are very happy to become part of tennis development in the country for 18 years.”
