Feb 27, 2013

LA SALLE shoots for the UAAP women’s tennis crown as it takes on defending champion University of Santo Tomas in their second encounter in the best-of-three Season 75 Finals series on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The Lady Archers, who hacked out a 3-2 win in the series opener last Tuesday, hope to wrap it up and avenge the loss they suffered at the hands of the Tigresses last season.

The showdown starts at 9 a.m.

Reggie Santiago, who won the league’s highest individual honor two years ago, downed reigning MVP Macy Gonzales of UST bowed 2-6, 2-6 in the first singles match. La Salle won the other two singles matches, while UST took the two doubles matches.

“We just need one more one win to win the championship. Sana ganoon pa rin ang magiging performance nila,” said Kraut, who is also the Philippines’ non-playing team captain in the Davis Cup. “Itong line-up na ito ang magpapanalo sa amin.”

The Tigresses won the doubles matches, with Diane Bautista and Jhie Helar defeating Nikki Arandia and Princess Castillo, 7-5, 4-6, in the first match and Zaza Paulino and April Santos turning back Lynette Palasan and Aira Putiz, 6-0, 6-2.
