YOUNG TENNIS player Tennielle “Tenny” Madis once again brought pride to the Philippines as she secured both singles and doubles titles in the recently concluded ITF J60 Changhua 2024 Seed Academy Cup International Junior Cup Championships.

The Philippine Tennis Academy’s Madis entered Changhua as the second seed and dominated the tournament by winning all sets, having given up only eleven games in 5 matches including a 6-0, 6-4 win in the finals against 3rd seed Rira Kosaka of Japan. For the doubles category, Madis and her PTA teammate Stefi Marithe Aludo edged out Kosaka and Hong Kong’s Ching Laam Lai 6-3, 6-3.

This is Madis’s fifth singles title this year and succeeds her victories during the J30 PHINMA Makati City Weeks 1 and 2 in July, and J60 titles in Colombo (Sri Lanka) in September, and Nonthaburi (Thailand) in October. She also bagged four doubles championships in that span with Aludo.

These results catapulted Madis into the top 300 in the World Junior Rankings this December--a meteoric rise from having zero points and no ranking in July just this year.

A native of M’Lang, North Cotabato, Madis has one more year in the Juniors and is setting her sights on competing at several Grand Slams next year. She is under the tutelage of former Philippine No. 1 and Davis Cupper Bobie Angelo and guidance of the PTA coaching staff thanks to the support of PTA Founder and President Romy Chan.

PTA Chairman and PHINMA Chairman Emeritus Oscar J. Hilado lauded Madis for her remarkable performance and expressed excitement for what lies ahead for the Filipina tennister.

“Our heartfelt congratulations to Tenny for her exceptional skill and dedication to the sport which has paid off in the tournaments she has been competing in. She has been an inspiration to us and everyone supporting Philippine tennis. We in the Academy are very proud of her and wish her all the best in her succeeding events,” said Mr. Hilado, a long-time patron of the sport.
