Iglupas claims U-18 title; Resma rules U-16 class

Iglupas stops Resma, bags First Gen crown

SECOND seed Khim Iglupas upended top seed Roxanne Resma, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, on Sunday to bag the girls’ 18-and-under title in the First Gen-Juntaphil Metro Age Group Tennis Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Resma earlier copped the 16-and-under crown with an emphatic 6-1, 6-1 romp over Frances Santiago.

Santiago, meanwhile, shocked top seed Rafaella Villanueva, 6-3, 6-1, to snatch the 14-and-under diadem, while No. 1 Mikaela Vicencio played true to form and frustrated Alexandra Eala, 6-1, 6-1, to claim the 12-and-under title

Second seed Marcen Gonzales broke top ranked Jed Olivarez twice in a 6-4, 6-4 win to pocket the boys 16-and-under plum, while top seed Arthur Pantino overpowered No. 2 Cenon Gonzales Jr., 6-2, 6-2, to run away with the 14-and-under crown.

Top seed Marcus del Rosario also lived up to expectations and downed No. 2 Alex Bulilan, 6-0, 6-2, to dominate the 12-and-under category, while fancied Jan Trillanes ended Eurydice Gaspar’s impressive run of victories with a scrambling 4-2, 5-4 (3) victory in the 10-under unisex division.

Argil Lance Canizares outlasted Bryan Otico, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, on Saturday to capture the boys’ 18-and-under title.

All winners gained 200 ranking points with the runners-up receiving 150, the semifinalists 100 and the quarterfinalists 70 points in the tournament presented by First Gen and organized by Junior Tennis Association of the Philippines and sponsored by Smart Communications, Technifibre Balls, Accel, RCBC and Pet One.
