BROTHERS Marcen and Cenon Gonzales dominated the Manila leg of the 16th HEAD 2014 junior satellite circuit national tennis age-group tournament at the Meralco tennis courts in Ortigas.

Top seed Marcen Gonzales whipped Romnee Kyle Joseph, 6-3, 6-0, to snatch the premier boys’ 18-under title in the satellite junior tennis competition that lured more than 300 players from Metro Manila.

Gonzales made it a double celebration when he teamed up with Jose Nicolas Cano to beat Elijah Arevalo and Noel Atienza in the boys’ 18-under doubles finals, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

On the other hand, Cenon proved too much for Joel Atienza as he put away a 6-4, 6-4 win for the boys’ 16-under bracket in the annual competition sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) and supported by Smart Communications, Smart Sports, Chris Sports, HEAD Graphene, Toalson and HEAD.

“We saw lots of new good players. In fact, we already signed up some kids already from Cebu, Mountain Province, Osamis and some places to be part of our Team HEAD Philippines,” said Liza Tang-Yuquico of Dynamic Sports Corporation, the exclusive distributor of HEAD in the country.

Top seed Colleen Sioson defeated second seed Aimea Rosales, 6-3, 6-3, to take home the girls’ 18-under singles trophy, while Melanie Faye Dizon bagged the girls’ 16- and 14-under singles titles.

The fourth-seeded Dizon won the 16-under title when second seed Chloe Saraza retired while trailing 0-1 in the finals then beat No. 1 Rafa Villanueva in the finals of the 14-under class, 6-4, 6-2.

Aljohn Talatayod also secured two titles by beating Jed Justin Labasano in the boys’ 14-under class, 6-4, 6-3, and Mark Alfred Directo in the boys’ 12-under division, 6-4, 6-3.

Top seed Gea Sagandoy whipped Lourdes Pe in the girls’ 12-under finals, 7-5, 6-2, while Miguel Luis Vicencio waylaid Shant Nuguit, 6-1, 6-0 to pocket the 10-unisex under crown.
