UNRANKED Rachelle De Guzman continued her giant-killing ways as she stunned fourth-ranked Aileen Rogan, 6-2 6-4, on Thursday to advance to the semifinal round of the Philippine Columbian Association Open women’s singles tournament.
The straight-set victory propelled De Guzman to a semifinal encounter with top-ranked Katharina Lehnert, who defeated Alyssa Labay, 6-1 6-0, in their quarterfinal match.
De Guzman, who earlier ousted eighth-seed Christine Patrimonio, will once again be the underdog in her meeting with Lehnert, the 18-year-old Fil-German who has yet to drop a set in the tournament.
Second-seed Clarice Patrimonio, meanwhile, bounced back from a set down to beat Toby Miclat, 4-6 6-1 6-4.
Patrimonio will face third-seed Marian Jade Capadocia as the junior girls sensation downed Hannah Espinosa, 6-3 6-1.
