A DOUBLES match played on clay courts has always been familiar territory for Alex Eala.
In fact, one of her two Junior Grand Slam titles—the Roland Garros championship—was won on red clay, along with three other International Tennis Federation titles also claimed on the surface.

After a year away from clay, Eala—currently ranked WTA No. 72—is back, this time partnered with Katie Volynets of the United States, ranked No. 80.
Interestingly, in their head-to-head history, Eala defeated Volynets in the 2025 Miami Open round of 128. Now, they’re teaming up on the same side of the net.
The Filipino-American duo is set to open their WTA 150 Oeiras Ladies Open campaign on Wednesday night, Manila time, around 6:00 PM, against tournament fourth seeds Carmen Corley and Christina Rosca, both from the U.S.
Despite being unseeded, Eala and Volynets actually have higher rankings than their opponents.
Double-duty for Alex
Eala is also coming off a singles round of 32 victory against Anouk Koevermans of the Netherlands, 6–3, 6–4, on Tuesday.
She now advances to the round of 16, with her next opponent still to be determined.
