PHILIPPINE No. 6 Edilyn Balanga beat No. 7 and doubles partner Marinel Rudas, 6-3, 6-4, for the title in the Nueva Ecija leg of the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open recently at Center Court Tennis Club in Cabanatuan City.
Balanga and Rudas earlier won the doubles title against Hanna Espinosa and Erika Manduriao, 6-3, 6-5.
Former La Salle player Alberto Villamor recovered from a slow start to beat Baguio’s top player Jet Tangalin, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the men’s final.

The Nueva Ecija leg champions face the winners of the other regional qualifying legs in the National Finals set in Manila in February 2016.
“The Nueva Ecija leg has been our most exciting leg yet, with the participation of some of our country’s top tennis players who displayed their skill and talent in the court,” said Peugeot Philippines president Glen Dasig.
“We are eager to witness similar high intensity, exciting matches in the last two legs of the PPTO in Cebu and Manila in early 2016.”
The Cebu leg is set January 9 to 15. The tournament is open to players 13 years old and above. Registration is ongoing at Peugeot dealerships and forms are available online.
