STANDING in the way of Alex Eala’s spot in the finals of the WTA 125 Birmingham Classic is Swiss qualifier world No. 132 Rebeka Masarova.
Less than 24 hours after her quarterfinal win over Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand, 6-3, 6-2, the 37th-ranked Filipina and tournament top seed faces another tough test in the former career-high world No. 62.

In her transition to grass, Eala has so far put together a 3-0 winning streak after ending her clay campaign with a first-round exit at the French Open and a 4-6 record on the surface.

Meanwhile, Masarova advanced to the semifinals after beating American Mary Stoiana, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.
She also survived two qualifying rounds to earn a place on the main draw and is now riding a 5-0 win run.
It will be the first meeting between the two, with the match scheduled to start not before 6:00 p.m., Manila time.
