ALEX Eala’s pro debut in a Grand Slam main draw will have to wait anew, as she stumbled again in her final match in qualifying, this time in Wimbledon on Thursday night.
Eala - who also came one win away from the French Open main draw last month - lost narrowly to New Zealand’s Lulu Sun, 6(3)-7, 5-7, in her third and last test in the tournament’s qualifiers.
Alex squanders strong start
Despite her best efforts in going toe-to-toe with the world No. 123, the Filipina just couldn’t get over the hump late in both sets as she lost two straight in heartbreaking fashion.
After mounting a 5-2 lead in the opening set, Eala ran out of steam and couldn't recover.

The 19-year-old was trying to become the first Filipino to debut in the main draw of a Grand Slam in the pros. She gets another shot at history at the end of the year in the US Open.
