NOT wanting to come down from this high, Alex Eala is about to go on her next trip with a shot at defending champion Iga Swiatek.

Fresh off a solid three-set session against Australian rising star Maya Joint, the Filipina world No. 30 reached the highest stage of her Grand Slam career, advancing to the third round of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.

Her next opponent is a familiar face in third-ranked and reigning titlist Swiatek, whom she will face for the third time in her career.

Last year, Eala drew first blood against Swiatek in the Miami Open quarterfinals on the hard courts, pulling off a stunning 6-2, 7-5 victory in what remains one of the biggest wins of her career.

The Pole, however, got her revenge a month later on the clay courts of Madrid, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win to level their head-to-head at 1-1.

Now, it's time for grass.

"I think it's going to be tough for me. I'm going to try to make it tough for her, as well," Eala said in a Wimbledon press conference. "It's a different surface than we've played on before, so I think there should definitely be some different aspects compared to the last time."

"She's won a Slam on grass. She's won a Slam on clay. She's won a Slam on hard courts, so I'm expecting a great challenge," she added.

The former world No. 1 is coming off wins over Taylor Townsend, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, and Karolina Pliskova, 6-1, 6-3, in the first two rounds, as she continues her title defense.

Eala, meanwhile, defeated Joint, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, and Renata Zarazua, 6-1, 6-2, to book her place in the third round, already the deepest Grand Slam run of her young career.

The 29th seed is looking to ride her red-hot momentum after posting a 9-2 record on grass prior to Wimbledon, a mark she has since improved to 11-2.

Her run includes the WTA 125 Birmingham title and a semifinal finish in Berlin, where she scored victories vs. Top 10 players in Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina.

Eala and Swiatek's third career meeting at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is scheduled for not before 8:30 p.m. Manila time on Saturday.
