DREAM duo Alex Eala and Coco Gauff fell to Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, in a gruelling three-setter, 5-7, 6-3, 10-7, in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Internazionali BNL d’Italia Women’s Doubles, capping off the Filipina’s stint in eh tournament.
The opening set was tightly contested, with Eala and Gauff taking early control from 0-1 to 5-3 before Errani and Paolini rallied to snatch it 7-5.
In the following set, Eala and Gauff regrouped, steadily building momentum from 0-1 to 6-3, leveling the match and forcing a decisive match tiebreak.
The final stretch was a tense, back-and-forth battle, tied at 6-6, until Errani and Paolini pulled away to seal the win at 10-7, after an hour and 36 minutes of play.
While the loss marked the end of Eala’s final tune-up before her Grand Slam debut at the French Open later this month, world No. 3 Coco Gauff will continue her campaign in Rome, advancing to the singles semifinals.
Just an hour before their doubles match, Gauff emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against Mirra Andreeva, securing her spot in the WTA 1000 semifinals.
In earlier interviews, Gauff shared that their partnership began with a direct message from Eala on Instagram—making this their first time sharing the court as a team.
Meanwhile, the Italian duo will next face the Russian pair of Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider in the semifinals, with a spot in the championship round on the line.
