CHRISTIAN Fel Lopez and Shaira Hope Rivera shone in the Davao City leg of the 16th HEAD 2014 Junior satellite circuit national tennis annual age-group tournament at the crowded Toril Tennis Courts in Davao City.
Lopez defeated Davao’s Jaffary Cariga in the boys’ 16-under finals, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
“It’s very exhausting and hot since the tournament started last Monday but it feels great to emerge on top,” said Lopez of the City of Samal.
“I’m hoping to sustain my efforts in the next leg in General Santos,” referring to the second leg set next week.
Davao’s Shaira Hope Rivera won two titles, topping the girls’ 18-under vision by outplaying Dianne Caballero, 6-3, 6-2, and bagging the 16-under singles crown with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jed Vallie Aquino.
Joel Cabusas defeated John Jeric Accion in the boys’ 18-under finals, 7-5 6-3, in the tournament that drew 150 players.
Janus Ringia beat Mark Alfred Directo in the boys’ 14-under singles finals, 6-3, 6-2, while Paterica Velez whipped Dana Abad, 6-3, 6-0, in the girls division.
Directo bounced back in the boys’ 12-under singles finals event, beating Jorez Pantuhan, 6-0, 6-1. Jessica Mae Carcueva walloped April Minnete Bintillo, 7-5, 6-2, in the girls’ 12-under title match of the event sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association and supported by Chris Sports, HEAD Graphene, Toalson and official tennis ball HEAD.
