FORMER world No. 1s Jennifer Capriati of the US and Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil were inducted on Saturday into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island.
Capriati, 36, won three Grand Slam titles and bagged gold in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
The American won the Australian and French Opens in 2001 and returned to Melbourne the next year to complete her back-to-back romp in the Grand Slam of Asia-Pacific. She had a total of 14 titles in the Women’s Tennis Association.
Kuerten, now 35, won three Grand Slam titles, all at the French Open (1997, 200, 2001), and had eight career victories. He retired in 2008.
Also inducted to the Hall of Fame were Spanish tennis great Manuel Orantes and tennis industry promoter Mike Davis. Wheelchair champion Randy Snow was inducted posthumously.
