YOUNG guns Jeleardo Amazona and Hannah Espinosa overwhelmend their respective foes to rule the fifth leg of 2013 HEAD Junior Satellite Circuit national tennis age-group tournament Cebu leg recently at the Consolacion Cebu tennis courts in Cebu.
Amazona, already a winner in the Davao and General Santos legs of the tournament, regained his winning form by ousting Cebuano Francis Parangan in a dramatic finale, 2-6, 6-4, 10-4, to bring home the boys’ singles 18-under class title.
But he could only settle for a runner-up honor in the boys’ 16-under singles division after losing to Mikko Ringia, 3-6, retired, in the title match of the event supported by Smart Sports, Chris Sports, Meralco, Maynilad, Toalson and Head, the official tennis ball.
“I was exhausted due to the heat,” said Amazona, a native of Davao Oriental. “But I’m happy to win another title again.”
Espinosa, meanwhile, scored a 6-2, 7-5 win over Erika Manduriao for the girls’ 18-under singles crown, while Alexie Santos of Palawan rallied past Jana Pages of Cebu, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5, for the girls’ 16-under singles trophy.
In the 14 under category, Alexie Santos routed Zethley Mae Alferez, 6-2,6-0, for the girls' crown, while Janus Ringia won against Rustin Suarez via walkover for the boys' title.
