ALREADY on her fifth tournament this year, Alex Eala continues the grind in the women's play as she prepares for her pro transition in less than two years.
In her ongoing tourney in W25 Joue Les Tours in France, the Filipina ace won big, 6-1, 6-4, over home bet Jenny Lim in the first round of main draw on Wednesday night.
She made it to the main draw after having won two rounds of the qualifiers.
Eala won 12 of 17 of games played last Wednesday to book a ticket to the round of 16, where she will face a very familiar opponent: Oksana Selekhmeteva from Russia.
Alex Eala will face former doubles teammate
Selekhmeteva, 19, was Eala's partner she won the 2021 French Open girls' doubles title with at Roland Garros in Paris.
This year, Selekhmeteva officially moved to the pros. She is second-seeded in the French $25K, with a WTA ranking of 207.
While they never faced off in the Juniors, this is already the second time they're battling each other in the women's circuit.
Eala, WTA no. 580, has a 0-1 record against Selekhmeteva after a defeat, 2-6, 3-6, in the quarterfinals of W15 Manacor in February 2021.
Will she even out their personal record this time?
The 16-year-old Pinay sensation faces Selekhmeteva on Thursday afternoon.
