WITH American icon Venus Williams by her side, Alex Eala advanced to the women’s doubles quarterfinals of the 2026 Bad Homburg Open early Wednesday morning, Manila time.
The newly formed tandem dispatched Australia’s Alexandra Osborne and American Catherine Harrison, 6-3, 6-4, to book a spot in the second round.
Both players entered the tournament as wildcards and had already bowed out of the singles play in the opening round.
Williams, together with sister Serena Williams, recently announced a return to doubles competition ahead of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, with the WTA 500 Bad Homburg Open serving as part of their buildup for the grass-court major.
Up next for the Filipino-American pair is a tough quarterfinal clash against the tournament’s second-seeded team of Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia and Olivia Nicholls of Great Britain, one of the most accomplished doubles pairings on the tour.
In the game that lasted an hour and 10 minutes, the 21-year-old and 46-year-old duo stormed to a 4-0 start and never looked back.
While Osborne and Harrison mounted a stronger challenge in the second frame, holding leads at 3-2, the Filipino-American pair seized control after leveling at 3-all, winning the final stretch to complete the sweep to the QF.
