MARCHING into another quarterfinal test at the WTA 125 Jingshan Open, Alex Eala is set to clash with home favorite Jia-Jing Lu, ranked No. 349 in the world.
The 20-year-old Eala, currently world No. 58, will be facing the seasoned Chinese veteran, 35, for the first time in her career.
Both enter the matchup riding confidence after delivering bagel sets in their previous wins.
Eala has yet to drop a set in Jingshan, dominating Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi, 6-0, 6-3, in the round of 16, after opening with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Aliona Falei.

Lu, meanwhile, brushed aside India’s Riya Bhatia, 6-4, 6-0, and outlasted Ekaterina Reyngold, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4, to reach the last eight.
While Eala enters as the higher-ranked and truly in-form, Lu brings her own wealth of experience, having once peaked at No. 162 in the WTA rankings.
Their quarterfinal showdown is scheduled for Friday at 11:00 a.m., Manila time.
