IN less than 24 hours after her exit at the WTA 125 Ilkley Open— a tough quarterfinal loss to reigning champion Rebecca Marino - Alex Eala is set to see action again, this time at the WTA 250 Nottingham Open, also in Great Britain.
The Filipina, currently ranked No. 77 in the world, enters the tournament as the sixth seed and will open her campaign on Saturday at 9:00 PM (Manila time) against France’s Varvara Gracheva, ranked No. 110.
Gracheva is playing her first grass-court tournament of the season after a first-round exit at Roland Garros roughly two weeks ago, where she lost to American Sofia Kenin (WTA No. 30), 3-6, 1-6.
Eala, for her part, is heading into her third grass-court event following appearances at the Birmingham and Ilkley Opens, the latter ended with a 6-1, 0-6, 6(4)-7(7) loss to Marino
This will be the first time the two will face each other in the professional ranks.
