FILIPINA tennis sensation Alex Eala is poised for a deep run in the W50 Pune tiff in India after moving on to the next round of both the singles and doubles tournament on Thursday.
Eala, coming off of an early exit in the Australian Open qualifiers, bagged seats in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the singles and doubles tiffs, respectively.
Eala drops only 3 games
The 18-year-old first took care of business in singles where she blasted home bet Zeel Desai, 6-1, 6-2, in the Round of 16.
She needed just a little over an hour to clinch her second straight-sets victory in the tournament and barge into the Top 8.
They battle Japanese duo Saki Imamura and Naho Sato for a spot in the final on Friday.
Alex faces doubles partner
However, Eala finds herself in a peculiar position as she sets up a duel with her Latvian doubles partner and top seed Darja Semenistaja for a slot in the semis.
Earlier Thursday, Eala and Semenistaja qualified for the semifinals in the doubles tourney after drubbing Jessie Aney and Lena Papadakis, 6-4, 2-6, 10-4.
