A REMATCH is set between Alex Eala and world No. 20 Jelena Ostapenko in the Round of 16 of the WTA 250 Eastbourne Open, happening Wednesday at 9:30 PM (Manila time).
The 20-year-old Filipino, currently ranked No. 74 in the world, is coming off a dominant performance after stunning Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti, 6-0, 6-1, in the opening round of the main draw.

Eala, who earned her spot through the qualifiers, had to survive two matches before facing Bronzetti.
This will mark her second meeting with the Latvian star this year—and their first clash on grass.

Eala previously defeated Ostapenko last March in the Round of 64 of the Miami Open, 7-6, 7-5, a result that kickstarted a series of upsets for the then-teenager.
Ostapenko, for her part, is out to avenge that loss, coming into the match fresh off a first-round win over Britain’s Sonay Kartal, 6-3, 7-6, last Tuesday night.
This tournament marks Eala’s fourth grass-court appearance this season, following the Birmingham Classic, Ilkley Open, and Nottingham Open. It also serves as her final tune-up ahead of the 2025 Wimbledon Classic
