Alex Eala in W25 Aldershot Round of 16
Fresh from winning her fourth overall pro title last week, Eala remains in the hunt again in Aldershot with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback win over Talia Gibson in the Round of 16.
The netfest lasted almost three hours with Eala fighting back after the loss in the opener.
Eala began Set 2 in control as she seized a 4-2 lead, and while Gibson would take two game wins in a row to tie the set at 4-all, the 18-year-old Filipina crucially broke her foe’s serve in Game 9 to regain the advantage.
Then in Game 10, Eala survived a back-and-forth which resulted in multiple deuces to take Set 2 after an hour and 10 minutes and force the decider.
In the deciding Set 3, Eala took the early lead with a 2-0 start.
While Gibson pulled back to shift momentum on her side, 3-2, Eala would go on to win four games in a row to claim the set and the victory, punctuated by a break point in Game 9.
Eala faces American Jenna Defalco in the quarterfinal on Friday.
Meanwhile in doubles, Eala and Polish partner Urszula Radwanska fell at the hands of Japanese pair Saki Imamura, and Erina Hayashi in the semifinal, 4-6, 4-6.
