ALEX Eala will have to put the Wuhan Open on hold for now after bowing to Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima, 4-6, 6-3, 2-6, in the qualifying round on Saturday night.
The Filipina, ranked world no. 58, struggled to find consistency in the two-hour, 11-minute duel and showed signs of fatigue, having had less than a day’s rest after her quarterfinal exit in Suzhou 125 on Friday.
Seeded fifth in the qualifying draw, Eala fell to the world no. 94 Uchijima, who capitalized on her sluggish start in the decider by racing to a 4-0 lead and never looking back.
Uchijima moves on to the next round of qualifiers.
Wuhan qualifiers was Eala's third stop in her Asian Swing after Jingshan 125 and Suzhou 125, where she both exited in the quarters.
