DESPITE all the noise surrounding her rise, Alex Eala chooses to stay calm and self-assured as she enters her clay season.
In a stretch of her career where expectations can easily swell with every win and doubters multiply after each loss, Eala leans on something more grounded than public opinion.

“Opinions or expectations can change. That is not in your control,” the 20-year old told the WTA's official website. “What I know are facts and truths, and the truth is that I’ve been working really hard.”
It is that quiet conviction that has begun to define her growth, not just in results but in how she carries them. From one Miami campaign to the next, the Filipina star has learned to embrace pressure.
“I’m in a position where this tournament is not all or nothing. Not everything’s on the line,” she shared. “I know my truth.”
That clarity did not come overnight.
It is built from both upbringing and self-awareness, a balance the 20-year-old continues to refine as she navigates the world of tennis at its highest level.
“It’s just the emotional intelligence to be aware of what I’m going through and to figure out what mindset is going to help me,” she explained. “You don’t want to fight yourself, right?”
As she transitions to clay, hoping to surpass last season’s 2–4 win-loss record on the surface, that mentality could prove just as valuable as any physical performance.
In an era leaning heavily toward power, Eala is embracing her growth without losing her identity and youth.
“I’m still getting stronger, still being more powerful,” she said. “But I think I have different, other strengths as well, different layers to my game.”
And when the spotlight dims, she finds ease in the ordinary and the mundane, laughing along to movies and sitcoms like any other kid her age.
“I love the sitcom vibe, like The Office. I absolutely love The Office. I love Modern Family, too. Super great. Things like that,” she added.
For Eala, the climb is no longer about proving herself time and time again. It's about trusting the process - on her own terms and at her own pace.
