FILIPINA tennis ace Alex Eala climbed 29 places in the latest Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.
From No. 281 at the end of August, the 17-year-old is now at No. 252 in the women's pro, her career-best ranking since she started playing in the women's circuit last 2020.
She remains the highest-ranked Southeast Asian player with Thailand’s Peangtarn Plipuech trailing her at No. 342.
Last September, Eala ruled the 2022 US Open Girls for her first singles grand slam title to add to her collection of juniors doubles trophies from the 2020 Australian Open and the 2021 French Open.
Eala continues to improve her ranking joining more professional tournaments this year, a plan she has laid down as she prepares for her transition.
Eala hits new heights
In her latest tournament, an International Tennis Federation $80,000, she reached the quarterfinals before succumbing to Mexican Marcela Zacarias, 6-2, 7-5, in Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club in California, USA.
