ALEX Eala faces the prospect of meeting Leylah Fernandez and world No. 3 Jessica Pegula anew in the second round of the Wuhan Open 2026 after its draw on Saturday.
The Filipina rising star is coming into the WTA1000 tourney as the 13th seed as she awaits her first round opponent from the qualifiers.
Eala is in the Section 4 of the event and is set for a collision course against Fernandez if the Fil-Canadian gets through against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
The two young stars previously met at the Round of 16 of the Mubadala DC Open where Eala won, 6-2, 7-6 (1). They have split their head-to-head matchup.
If she gets through that, a face-off against Pegula looms in the third round with the American star entering the tourney as the 2-seed. They're also 1-1 in their head-to-head match-up.
Eala is looking to defend her 60 points in the WTA rankings as she is expected to play her first game on Monday.
Her doubles partner Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey is also fighting her way through the qualifiers, where she's facing Sinja Kraus of Austria.
A total of $4,088,211 prize money is available in the event.
World no. 1 Elena Rybakina and defending champion Coco Gauff are skipping the event which is part of the season’s Asian Swing.
