SET for the US Open—the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year—Alex Eala braces for a tough opening-round challenge against world No. 15 Clara Tuason of Denmark.
The 20-year-old Filipino, currently ranked No. 70 with a career-high of No. 56, is making her US Open main-draw debut. She enters the tournament after a two-week break to recover from a shoulder injury.

Her opponent, 14th-seeded Tauson, comes in with momentum after a semifinal run in Montreal, where she stunned formerly top-ranked Iga Swiatek and American star Madison Keys. At 22, Tauson already owns three WTA singles titles and reached the Round of 64 in last year’s US Open.
Eala, however, has her own history with the event. In 2022, she became the first Filipinp to win a junior Grand Slam singles crown, a milestone she earned at Flushing Meadows.

This will be the first career meeting between Eala and Tauson. The official match schedule is yet to be released, with qualifiers still ongoing, but the main draw runs from August 24 to September 7.
