AHEAD of another big clay test, Alex Eala is inching her way up the rankings ladder.
The Filipina rose one spot to world No. 44 in the latest WTA rankings released Monday, building momentum just days before the Mutua Madrid Open kicks off in Spain.
Eala will open her campaign in the Round of 128 against a qualifier, with a potential second-round clash looming against Belgium’s Elise Mertens, the current doubles world No. 1 and singles No. 21.

Madrid also serves as one of Eala's home tournaments as she currently still lives in the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain.
The WTA 1000 event marks Eala’s third clay outing this season following stops at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, and her 11th tournament overall in a packed 2026 campaign that has already taken her from Auckland to Miami.
Eala looks to turn another opportunity into a deeper run in preparation of the 2026 Roland Garros French Open on May 18 to June 7, 2026.
