    FRANCIS Casey Alcantara put the finishing touches to the Philippines’ victory over Thailand in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group II tie when he defeated Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul, 6-4 4-6 6-0, on Sunday night at the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Lapu Lapu City.

    Alcantara’s win over Wishaya allowed the Filipinos to beat the Thais by an official score of 4-1 in the best-of-five second round affair.

    Alcantara blanked Wishaya in the third set to cap his dominance of a match was reduced to three sets after Ruben Gonzales clinched the tie for the Philippines by defeating Danai Udomchoke, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2, in the first reverse singles on Sunday afternoon.

    The Philippines will next face New Zealand in a tie where a promotion to Group I is at stake.
