AFTER spending the past month proving she belongs on grass, Alex Eala now takes her biggest test yet at Wimbledon.
Entering Wimbledon for the first time as a seeded player, the Filipina tennis ace hopes her strongest grass-court stretch yet finally blossoms into a breakthrough run at the year's third Grand Slam.
The draw released Friday handed the world No. 30 and No. 29 seed a familiar challenge to kick off her campaign: Mexico's Renata Zarazua.

It's a matchup that comes with unfinished business.
The two met only once before, back in an USA ITF event in Cary in 2024, where Zarazúa rallied from a set down to beat Eala, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
This time, the Filipina gets another crack at the 28-year-old former world No. 51, only now, on tennis' most iconic stage.
Eala also has another score to settle at Wimbledon itself.
Last year, her main-draw debut ended in the opening round after running into eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova. After taking the opening set, she bowed out, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
The 20-year-old arrives in London fresh off the best grass season of her young career.
She stormed into the semifinals of the WTA 500 Berlin Open, lifted the WTA 125 title in Birmingham to jumpstart it all, reached the Round of 16 at Queen's Club, and wrapped up her preparations in Bad Homburg, where she also enjoyed a memorable doubles stint alongside seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams.
The results have already earned Eala a Top 30 ranking and her maiden Grand Slam seeding.
Now comes the opportunity to make both milestones count.
Should Eala get past Zarazua, she'll face the winner of the first-round match between tennis legend Serena Williams, wild card entrant, and her 2025 Eastbourne tormentor, Maya Joint.
