UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas lorded over the UAAP Season 79 men's taekwondo tilt on Tuesday at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.

It was the third straight crown for the España-based jins, who trounced University of the Philippines in its final game, 6-1, to wrap up the competition with a 5-1 win-loss record.

National University (NU) shared the same record, but by virtue of win-over-the-other rule, UST went on to claim its 14th overall title.

UST jin Aris Capispisan, who was named MVP, said the feat was much sweeter knowing that other teams put the target on their backs before the season even began.

"Sobrang blessed at overwhelmed kami, nag-payoff yung hard work namin sa training," said Capispisan.

"Pantay-pantay teams sa UAAP. Nakaka-pressure kasi kami yung team-to-beat, kami yung pinagaaralan ng ibang team. Kailangan every year i-push pa namin (sarili namin)," he added

NU wound up second, while Far Eastern University placed third with a 4-2 card.

Behind MVP Shiryl Badol, the Lady Bulldogs bagged their first title since joining the competition in 2012.

UST wound up second, while Rookie of the Year Pauline Lopez led Ateneo to its first podium finish in 18 years.
