UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas is now the lone unbeaten team in the men's division, even as University of the Philippines and La Salle share the women's division lead in the UAAP Season 77 taekwondo tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
With Paul Romero and Joaquin Mendoza leading the charge, the Growling Tigers downed National University, 5-2, and blanked Ateneo, 7-0, to stretch their perfect run to four on Friday.
The Lady Maroons nipped the Lady Bulldogs, 4-3, while the Lady Archers turned back the Lady Eagles, 6-1, to improve their records to 3-0.
NU posted the day's biggest upset as the Bulldogs, last placers in their inaugural stint last season, downed defending men's champion La Salle, 4-3.
Alfred Joseph Avila, Aljon Ortonio, Dave Cea and Alven Alcantara provided the victories for NU, which climbed to 2-1 to join its victims and University of the East, a 4-3 winner over Far Eastern University, in second place.
The Blue Eagles went down to 1-3, while the Fighting Maroons re winless in two outings and the Tamaraws without a win in three.
In other women's results, titleholder UST whipped UE, 6-1, for its second win in three matches, while FEU fashioned out a 7-0 victory against Ateneo to barge into the win column after two straight losses.
The Lady Eagles and the Lady Bulldogs tote identical 1-3 slates, while the Lady Warriors are winless in two starts.
