UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas (UST) jins swept the five gold medals at stake in the inaugural UAAP poomsae competition on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Growling Tigers, coached by world champion Rani Ortega, won the individual and team gold medals in the men’s and women’s categories, plus the pairs competition.
University of the Philippines bagged three silver medals for second place, while Ateneo was third with one silver and three bronze.
World championship bronze winner Shaneen Sia jumpstarted the Tigers’ domination by winning the women’s individual competition with 8.35 points. France Alarilla of Ateneo clinched silver with 8.07, while FEU’s Juvenile Crisostomo was third with 8.05.
World silver medalist Marvin Gabriel ruled the men’s individual with 8.52 points, beating Dustin Mella (8.33) and Ateneo’s Raymond Bermejo (7.97).
The Tigers’ mixed pair of Rodolfo Reyes and Yuie Murillo won gold with 8.24 points, whil UP’s Anthony Matias and Cyrmyn Perlas won silver with 8.15 and Ateneo’s Alarilla and Francis Agojo had 8.04 for bronze.
UST topped won the team female gold, with UP and Ateneo placing second and third respectively, while UST was joined by UP and Ateneo on the men’s podium.
