    Sep 20, 2014

INCHEON, South Korea -- Divine Wally, Jean Claude Saclag, and Francisco Solis beat separate opponents on Saturday in a rousing debut for Filipino wushu bets in the 17th Asian Games here.

Wally beat Chao Ho Yee of Hong Kong in the opening round of the -52kg women’s sanda, while Saclag beat Myanmar’s Kyaw Lin Tun in the -60kg men’s division.

Solis defeated Shams Ur Rehman of Pakistan in the men’s -56kg sanda.

Not as fortunate was weightlifter Nestor Colonia who did not finish after failing to make a lift in the snatch of the men’s 56kg division.

In Day One of the qualification round for trap shooting, Hagen Topacio finished 33rd with a score of 65 after three rounds while 2008 Olympic qualifier Eric Ang placed 40th with a 63.

In rowing, Benjie Tolentino, a member of the 2000 Philippine Olympic team, only finished fourth in the first heat  of the lightweight men’s single sculls with a clocking of 1:56.38 and was relegated in the repechage.

Edgar Ilas and Nestor Cordova were also relegated to the repechage of the men’s lightweight double sculls with a time of 6:54.52.

Tolentino, Ilas, and Cordova, however, can still make it to the medal round if they top the repechage.
