TACHIANA Keizha Mangin became the first Filipino female world titlist after ruling the 2024 World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Chuncheon, Korea.
Mangin captured the female -49kg category gold by beating Kim Hyang Gi of Korea, 2-1.
It was a first for a Filipina, and a first for the Philippines since Alex Borromeo captured the world crown of the -47kg class in the first edition of the competition in 1996 held in Barcelona.
The world title adds to the growing list of accomplishments for Mangin that includes a bronze medal in the 2019 World Taekwondo Cadet Championship, and two Asian Championship bronzes in the 2019 (cadets division) and 2022 (youth).

This year, Mangin has also nabbed the title in the Daegu 2024 World University Taekwondo Festival last July.
Mangin's journey
Mangin drew a first round bye, and defeated Judith Cordoba Heredia of Spain, 2-0, to start her world title bid.
She also swept Natkamon Wassana of Thailand, 2-0, and reached the semifinals with another 2-0 win over Habiba Wael Emerah of Egypt.
Mangin didn’t break a sweat in the semifinals after her opponent Lamprini Anna Asimaki of Greece lost via walkover.
