YNAH Langit powered La Salle to a close 4-3 decision over defending champion Far Eastern University to move within a win of clinching the women’s title in the UAAP taekwondo tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Langit scored an impressive 16-4 victory over Marivic Garcia in their middle-heavyweight duel to clinch the tie.
The Tamaraws had evened things up after lightweight Karla Alava bucked a knee injury and edged Jyra Lizardo, 6-5.
La Salle, which earlier hammered out a 7-0 shutout of Ateneo in the morning session, can win its first crown in the last 14 years – and fifth overall - with a victory against University of the Philippines on the final day of eliminations on Tuesday.
The Lady Archers last won the championship in 1998.
FEU dropped to second place with a 3-1 record.
In other lady matches, the Tigresses downed the Lady Eagles, 3-1, while the Lady Maroons pummeled the Lady Warriors, 6-1.
UST and UP are now in joint third with identical 2-1 slates.
In men’s play, title-holder University of Santo Tomas boosted its stock with a 6-1 thumping of tournament newcomer National University and remained unbeaten after three games.
Surprising UP also posted a 3-0 record after defeating Ateneo, 5-2, while La Salle nosed out University of the East, 4-3, for its third win in four starts.
The Blue Eagles later barged into the win column with a 4-3 decision over the Tamaraws after losing three straight earlier.
