Another Asiad bronze medal in taekwondo as Alora loses to Cambodian rival

INCHEON, Korea — Kirstie Elaine Alora took home a bronze medal in the final day of taekwondo competitions on Friday at the Ganghwa Dolmens Gymnasium.

Alora lost to Sorn Seavmey of Cambodia, 6-5, in the semifinal round of the women’s -73kg division and settled for the Philippines' fifth bronze in taekwondo. She also won a bronze medal in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.

Alora won over Rima Abdel Karim Ibrahim of Jordan, 3-2, in the quarterfinal round to assure herself of a bronze medal joining Samuel Morrison, Ronna Ilao, Mary Anjelay Pelaez, and Benjamin Sembrano.

Japoy Lizardo only made it up to the round-of-16 after bowing to Ali Ghazanfar of Pakistan, 14-12, in the men’s -54kg. He won in his first bout against Thipphakone Kuangmany of Laos, 10-3.

Francis Aaron Agojo was defeated by Yamada Yuma of Japan, 18-16, in the quarterfinals after winning over Naing Dew Shein of Myanmar, 14-1.
