    Wushu fighter Daniel Parantac provides PH first silver medal in 17th Asian Games

    INCHEON, South Korea – Wushu fighter Daniel Parantac gave the Philippines its first silver medal in the 17th Asian Games here after finishing runner-up in the men’s taijiquan event at the Ganghwa gymnasium here.

    Parantac got the nod of the judges by scoring 9.68 points in his routine, just a shade below gold medalist Chen Zhouli of China (9.78 points).

    The silver medal of Parantac came after Francisco Solis (-56kg) and Jean Claude Saclag (-60kg) advanced to the semifinals of the men’s sanda events on Monday night, assuring them of at least a bronze medal.

    The semifinal matches of Solis and Saclag are being played as of posting time.

    Solis defeated Wong Ting Hong of Hong Kong, 2-0, while Saclag beat Hendrik Tarigan of Indonesia, 2-0, in their respective quarterfinal matches.

    In other events, Jasmine Alkhaldi timed 1:02.34 in the women’s 100m freestyle but failed to make it to the final eight after finishing ninth.

    In archery, Paul Merton Dela Cruz placed fourth in the men’s individual compound rankings. Earl Benjamin Yap placed 19th, Ian Chipeco 25th, and Jose Francisco Adriano 30th.
