THE Ateneo Junior High School taekwondo athlete who was seen in a viral video bullying his schoolmate has been dismissed, the school said on Sunday.
"After a thorough investigation that included listening to all parties involved, the decision of the administration is to impose the penalty of dismissal on the student caught bullying another student in the comfort room of the school. This means that he is no longer allowed to come back to the Ateneo," said Ateneo president Jose Ramon Villarin in a statement.
"I have spoken to the parents of both students about this decision and have offered the families continued support to help them overcome this difficult time. We are continuing the investigation as there are other matters involved in the incident," he said.
An Ateneo student and taekwondo practitioner was caught on video bullying his schoolmate by throwing kicks and punches that left the schoolmate bloodied.
The Philippine Taekwondo Association condemned the incident, saying the action is not what the sport stands for.
As the video went viral, several martial arts athletes have challenged the Ateneo student to fights, which has also been condemned by the martial arts community.
