DE LA Salle has brought the UAAP Season 86 table tennis tournament to the Amoranto Arena in Quezon City in a move that drew positive feedback from the community.
The Amoranto Sports Complex is where table tennis players from all over the country traditionally converge to play matches and interact with fellow players.
'Nostalgic moment'
“It’s a nostalgic moment for the table tennis community,” said Philippine Table Tennis Federation Inc. secretary general Pong Ducanes. “It brings back a lot of memories since a lot of the players and even coaches learned the sport at Amoranto.”
As sub-host, La Salle ensured the competition conformed to international standards by holding the games in an air-conditioned venue. The tables and taraflex flooring are compliant to International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rules.
La Salle, through the efforts of UAAP board of managing director Nong Calanog, has also tapped ITTF-certified match officials to oversee the games.
“On behalf of the community, we thank the UAAP and La Salle for choosing to hold the tournament at Amoranto, the home of Philippine table tennis,” said Ducanes.
Amoranto Sports Complex administrator Lucille Chua, action officer Martin Manese and Quezon City sports consultant Benjo Afuang also helped in bringing the tournament to the venue.
