AROUND 250 players from 40 countries will see action in the International Table Tennis Federation World Tour Philippine Open next week at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center
Richard Gonzales, the 2012 Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association and 2005 Southeast Asian Games champion, heads the Filipino delegation in teh as the country hosts an ITTF-sanctioned tournament for the first time from May 15 to 18.
Table Tennis Association of the Philippines president Ting Ledesma said the tournament is a great opportunity for the Filipinos to gain ITTF points.
“We want to bring the top caliber players here. Makakadagdag ito sa points para sa 2016 Olympics. At least, mababawasan din ’yung labas ng mga players natin para makakuha ng points,” Ledesma said.
Among the confirmed participants, according to Ledesma, are reigning SEA Games singles gold medalists Jian Zhan and Yu Mengyu of Singapore and others in the world top 100.
