    Filipina rules international squash event in New Zealand

    JEMYCA Aribado made history by becoming the first Filipina to rule an event in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour by claiming the SquashGym International Squash Classic 2018 in Palmerston, New Zealand recently.

    The third-seed Aribado won over fifth-ranked Emma Millar of New Zealand, 11-9, to take the women’s title of the W5-level tournament.

    A W5-level tournament has a price money ranging from $5,000 to $9,999 and for entry-level for young and up-and-coming professionals who are inclined to join bigger tournaments in the future.

    On her way to the crown, Aribado beat top-seed Sarah Cardwell of New Zealand, 5-11, 11-9, 1-11, 13-11, 11-7, in the semifinals.

    In the first round, Aribado beat unranked Charlotte Galloway of New Zealand, 11-3, 11-5, 11-9. She also defeated Au Yeong Wai Yhann of Singapore in straight sets, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7.
