THE Philippine Blu Girls got off to a strong start, beating Venezuela, 3-0, in the World Cup of Softball on Monday in Irvine, California (Tuesday, Manila time).
Francesca Foti, a Fil-American out of University of Nevada-Las Vegas, tossed a complete game five-hitter for the Blu Girls.
Francesca Altamonte, Garie Blando of UNLV and Dani Gilmore of Oregon State University slammed run-scoring hits to back Foti.
Seven Fil-Americans are playing for the Blu Girls in the seven-team meet.
The Philippines will next face Mexico.
Venezuela beat Chinese Taipei, 6-3, in the second game of their doubleheader.
Canada beat Japan, 11-4, while United States downed Mexico, 7-0, in an exhibition contest.
