ONE of the longest win streaks in UAAP history came to an end on Wednesday when the Adamson Lady Falcons lost to University of Santo Tomas, 6-2, in the UAAP Season 78 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial ballpark.
The Lady Falcons’ 73-game winning run that spanned half a decade came to a shock end at the close of the elimination round on Wednesday, denying Adamson a sweep of its 14 games in the eliminations and an outright berth in the finals.
Adamson’s winning streak began in 2011, the year it won the first of a string of five titles under head coach Ana Santiago.
However, the Lady Falcons have shown signs of vulnerability this season, barely escaping last week when they entered the late innings tied at 2-2 with National University before pulling off a 5-2 victory on Saturday.
After another victory over La Salle, the streak finally ended on Wednesday with Adamson finishing the regular season with an 11-1 record.
More than forcing a Final Four, the Tigresses also arranged a playoff with NU for the No. 2 spot after both teams ended in a tie for second place after the eliminations.
