THE PHILIPPINES lost to Japan, 0-7, on Saturday in the Asian Softball Championships in Japan but still qualified for the 2013 World Softball Championships set in New Zealand.
The Blu Boys clinched second spot in the tournament despite the defeat to Japan but assured themselves of another appearance in the world tilt slated March 1 to 10, where they will be hoping to improve on their 10th-place finish in 2009.
“The team played their best but still came up short,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) operations director Jun Veloso. “Japan was the better team. One good thing is that we still got second place and have qualified for the world championships.
“There is still room for improvement for the Blu Boys. We will go back to the drawing board when we return to Manila,” added Veloso, who also served as the delegation head.
The Blu Boys beat Indonesia, 7-0, earlier in the day.
