RIZAL Technological University and Ateneo scored opening day victories in the Summer Grand Slam women’s club division softball tournament on Monday at the Batangas Sports Complex in Batangas City.
RTU defeated Tanauan City-B, 5-2, while Ateneo outclassed Sta. Maria, Bulacan, 12-2, to open their campaign in the tournament presented by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines on a winning note.
In other women’s results, the University of Mindanao-Davao beat the Cavite Patriots, 13-11; Bulacan State University won over Woodrose, 7-6, and Sta. Maria, Bulacan blanked the Benguet Phantoms, 10-0.
In the men’s club division, defending champion San Antonio Bobcats blasted Calamba, 6-1,
Asaphil president Jean Henri Lhuillier of Cebuana Lhuillier was pleased with the turnout as 46 teams participated in the annual softball tournament.
“I'm so happy with the turnout. I'm sure this edition will be very exciting and competitive. I look forward for fresh talents to be discovered for the national team,” said Lhuillier.
