QUEENY Sabobo is proud to help push softball into the limelight after she was honored as one of four Athletes of the Year in the UAAP.
The Adamson infielder ended her collegiate career on a high note, making a list cited as the season’s best with Rio de Janeiro Olympics-bound La Salle table tennis player Ian Lariba, Lady Eagles skipper Alyssa Valdez, and Ateneo swimmer Jessie Lacuna.
“Masaya po ako sa dami ng athletes, ako ang napili,” Sabobo told reporters after Saturday’s UAAP closing ceremony. “Masaya rin po na bilang softball player, nakuha akong Athlete of the Year.”
The UAAP softball MVP, Sabobo powered Adamson to its sixth straight UAAP title.
“Nagulat po ako nung tinawag ’yung pangalan ko. Masaya rin po ako dahil ’yung isang pangarap ko, natupad,” said Sabobo.
Sabobo was also part of the Philippine Blu Girls team that won the gold in the Southeast Asian Games last year. After the UAAP, she is again focusing on playing for the national softball team.
“Training na po ako sa national team,” said Sabobo, who will see action with the Blue Girls in the World Cup in Canada next month.
