THE Philippines beat South Africa, 10-0, in four innings on Friday at the start of its campaign in the 2018 Women’s World Softball Championship in Chiba, Japan.
The Blu Girls scored six runs in the second before finishing the match via mercy rule with four in the fourth inning.
Arianne Vallestero hit a home run, had three hits and two runs batted-in, Garnet Blando and Cristy Roa each had two RBI.
Filipina pitchers Mary Ann Antolihao and Sierra Lange combined for six strikeouts, with Lange giving up South Africa’s only two hits of the match in the tournament that serves as a qualifier for the 2020 Olympics.
The Blu Girls will also see action in the Asian Games in Indonesia after the world tilt.
The Philippines will face Mexico on Saturday.
