THE Philippine Blu Girls battle some of the best women’s softball squads in the World Cup IX set July 7 to 13 in Irvine, California.
They will play against seven other teams including host United States, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico in the six-day event.
The Blu Girls will also be pitted against Japan and Chinese Taipei, two of the teams that they will be up against in the Asian Games from September 17 to October 4.
After the World Cup, the Blu Girls featuring seven Fil-Americans who have played in NCAA schools will stay in the United States to train before heading to Incheon, South Korea for the Asiad.
The members of the team are Alexandra Zuluaga, Arianne Vallestero, Angelie Ursabia, Lorna Adorable, Kriska Piad, Veronica Belleza, Elma Parohinog, Isabella Ann Mendoza, Luzviminda Embudo, Marlyn Francisco, Whell Gene Camral, Annalie Benjamen, Rizza Bernardino, Julian Tanaka, and Francesca Altomonte.
Invited to the Blu Girls were Garie Blando, Francesca Foti, and Jaexenne Balilea of University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Alleah Laxamana of University of California-Berkley, Leia Ruiz of San Diego State University, Dani Gilmore of Oregon State University, and Gabrielle Rodas of California State University-Fullerton.
Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines operations manager Jun Veloso, head coach Randy Dizer, and assistants Ronelon Pagkaliwanagan, Ana Santiago, and Apolonio Rosales are joining the squad.
