THE PHILIPPINE Blu Girls advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Championships with a nail-biting 3-2 upset win over Korea for their second straight win on Wednesday in Kaoshiung, Taiwan.
The Blu Girls will face host Chinese Taipei on Thursday for the right to play in the finals after also posting a 3-1 win over Hong Kong.
The win against Korea enabled the Blu Girls to surpass their fifth place finish in 2011.
The women’s softball team suffered three straight setbacks against Chinese Taipei, Japan, and China to start off the tournament but the two wins were enough to earn a place in the round-of-four.
